Magical Moments at the Museum: STEM Education

From Executive Director Mandy C. Santiago, CFRE

STEM education doesn’t just happen in classrooms. Early, informal exposure to science-based initiatives — museum visits, robotics clubs, nature exploration, hands‑on tinkering— has a lasting impact on how children see themselves as learners.

Why it matters:
· Children retain concepts better when they can touch, build, and test them.
· Informal environments reduce pressure…and increase curiosity.
· Having access to technology is great but learning how to problem solve effectively is a skill set that has lifelong benefits.

When we give children opportunities to engage with STEM in everyday life—through play, nature, community programs, or simple household projects—we’re not just teaching skills. We’re nurturing mindsets: resilience, creativity, and a belief that they can shape the future.

This is why we are so honored to partner with STEM leaders such as Corteva Agriscience in creating new exhibits! Investing in STEM beyond the classroom isn’t enrichment…it’s essential.

We hope that during your next visit to the Museum, you’ll check out this display for yourself in the Discovery Gallery!

Thanks to Caitlin from Corteva Agriscience for visiting recently and supporting STEM education at the museum!
