An adult male African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana) can grow taller than a basketball hoop and can weigh as much as a pickup truck. Elephants eat all day long and drink gallons of water at a time. They slurp up the liquid with their flexible trunks and squirt it into their mouths.

Above, On, and Below:
Life in the Bald Cypress swamp Is all about water.
Above the water, birds and dragonflies perch on
cypress "knees," looking out for food.

On the water's surface, a frog paddles by as dragonflies rest on the floating lily pads.
Below the water, fish swim among aquatic plants
and a crayfish scuttles along the muddy bottom.

Meet Holly, our Russian Tortoise. Twice a day, we introduce our friends to one of our live animal ambassadors. By meeting the animals in a safe environment, our human friends learn how to treat our animal friends. For the animals that can be touched, we demonstrate how to use two fingers and to be gentle.
