On Saturday, April 19, we said farewell to a legend, when Dude the Museum Cat, our cherished friend and colleague, passed away at age 17. Help us honor his memory with a gift to the Dude Memorial Fund and explore the new Dude’s Museum exhibit.
Almost every weekday over the past 16 years, Dude came to work. He greeted staff as we arrived at the museum, kept a lookout for mice, oversaw what was happening in the Facilities department, authored several books, and had thousands of social media followers.
We’re raising funds for a statue of Dude as a memorial on the museum’s grounds.
We would love your support. Donations of all sizes are welcome.
Donors will be recognized on a Friends of Dude pawprint wall. For gifts of $100-$224, donors may put their initials on a paw. For $225-$499, a name may be added. For $500 and up, add a name. For $1,000 and higher, add an image: perhaps of a beloved pet.

Now on exhibit at DelMNS
In honor of our dear friend, we’ve installed an exhibit inside and outside of the museum, inspired by Dude’s books. With artwork by Alan Peoples, the museum’s former Exhibits Manager and illustrator of Dude’s books, and accompanied by photos of Dude, the exhibit showcases Dude’s real-life and imaginary travels, both within and around the museum.
