An adult male African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana) can grow taller than a basketball hoop and can weigh as much as a pickup truck. Elephants eat all day long and drink gallons of water at a time. They slurp up the liquid with their flexible trunks and squirt it into their mouths.

The BMW Championship is coming to our area next week! From Thursday, August 18 through Sunday, August 21, the museum will close for a private event. Come out and visit us through August 17, or after we reopen on Monday, August 22.

Above, On, and Below:
Life in the Bald Cypress swamp Is all about water.
Above the water, birds and dragonflies perch on
cypress "knees," looking out for food.

On the water's surface, a frog paddles by as dragonflies rest on the floating lily pads.
Below the water, fish swim among aquatic plants
and a crayfish scuttles along the muddy bottom.

What do you notice about how life is connected
above, on, and below the water?

This exhibit in our Regional Journey Gallery was inspired by our Delaware’s Bald Cypress swamps, designed by exhibit designers @reichandpetch and fabricated by @kubikmaltbie

Meet Holly, our Russian Tortoise. Twice a day, we introduce our friends to one of our live animal ambassadors. By meeting the animals in a safe environment, our human friends learn how to treat our animal friends. For the animals that can be touched, we demonstrate how to use two fingers and to be gentle. Here, Holly had the opportunity to explore outside too!
