Old Fashioned Ice Cream Festival at Rockwood Park, Saturday June 24, 2023; 1 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. Fireworks; Rain date June 25. The Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Festival is a celebration of the history of New Castle County with a vintage feel. With great local ice cream and food, but also handmade crafts, historical demonstrations, unique wandering performers, museum tours, live music, and Fireworks. In 2022 we had perfect weather and close to 15,000 attendees.

As part of the Longwood Gardens Community Read Program, the Delaware Museum of Nature and Science comes to you to explore how the seasons are unique and their effect on the growth of local crops. Learn why we don’t only get flowers after May showers, but all year long!

In this outreach program, explore how the seasons are unique and their effect on the growth of local crops. Learn why we don’t only get flowers after May showers, but all year long!  Registration for this program will open two weeks prior to event, space is limited.  

The 2023 Longwood Gardens Community Reads children’s selection is Bring Me Some Apples and I’ll Make You a Pie: A Story About Edna Lewis, written by Robbin Gourley.  This story traces the roots of Edna Lewis, a descendant of slaves who grew up to be a famous chef, and includes five kid-friendly recipes.
