N3RD Thursdays: End of the World Costume Party

October 19 @ 6:00 pm 9:00 pm

So it’s the apocalypse now? Dress in your post-apocalyptic warrior garb as we party like the world is ending (because it kinda is). Come prepared to learn how to turn things around and save the planet while also learning some practical survival skills just in case. Must be 21 or older and ready to plan for the zombie apocalypse to attend.

Pre-registration required. $15 DelMNS Members, $30 non-members. For adults age 21+ only. Cash bar.

Please note: this event needs to have a minimum number of guests registered 10 days prior to the event, otherwise it will be canceled. Don’t let that happen! Register today, or tomorrow, or next week; just do it soon!

More about the End of the World Costume Party

The entire premise of Prince’s song “1999” is that the world is ending tomorrow so we might as well party. That’s kind of what we’re going for here. At the End of the World party, we’re going to take a look at the many ways we are destroying the planet and what we can do to turn the tide. Or, if that doesn’t work, learn some handy survival skills for the apocalypse.

Eats & Drinks

Our Rest Relax Recharge café is the place to be for tasty wraps and salads from Jamestown Catering, beer from Wilmington Brew Works, snacks, and wine available for purchase.

Dress Code

Dress like the apocalyptic warrior you know you can be. Make Mad Max proud.

Activities

Along with games and an entirely inappropriate scavenger hunt, the evening features:

Pop-Up Science | 6-8:30 p.m.

Some of the museum’s best science nerds will be popping up with some fun and funky science in different parts of the museum, talking about everything from radioactivity to edible and medicinal plants.

Survival Skills | 6-8:30 p.m.

We’re bringing in people with very particular sets of skills – find them around the museum to pick up some handy knowledge for surviving the apocalypse.

Stargazing | 6-9 p.m.

Join Philly’s favorite scientist Buddy Muhler to take a closer look at the night sky (and maybe figure out celestial navigation).

Meet an Animal Ambassador | 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Get to know a couple of the museum’s animal ambassadors and learn whether or not they are likely to survive the sixth extinction.

Story Time | 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

These are NOT the stories we read during the day – join us in the Nature Nook for some truly inappropriate story time.

Post-Apocalyptic Costume Contest | 8:45 p.m.

Our team of survivalists will be scouring the museum for the best costumes to compete in this contest, with winners chosen by audience applause. Prizes this month include some sweet, sweet swag from the museum store, passes to N3RD Thursdays in December and February, and passes to Monsters, Myths, and Multiverses.
