In May 2022, the Delaware Museum of Natural History completed an exciting metamorphosis to the now-named Delaware Museum of Nature and Science. We are focused on a service-centric culture toward our guests, including team members, and a friendly, cohesive, collegial environment. We are proud to announce opportunities for interested volunteers to join our team. The minimum age for regular volunteers is 15 years old and/or be a high school freshman or beyond. Summer Science Corps is for high school teens age 14 and up.

Public Engagement Volunteers
Assist our Public Engagement formal and informal education team with gallery interpretation, camps, special programming and events, scout & community overnights and more.
This opportunity is available to people who are:
- Have knowledge of natural history and/or science or an interest and willingness to learn
- Comfortable and willing to interact and relate to different age groups and educational levels in a positive and professional manner
Public Engagement volunteer opportunities include:
Summer Camp – help our summer camp staff lead fun and interactive activities for campers ages 4-12 years
Science Kits – choose one of your favorite science themed kits as a show & tell for museum guests in our galleries
Community outreaches – represent the museum at community events with fun biofacts such as feathers, furs, scales, and skulls as well as promotional materials.
Nature Nook Assistant – assist our Nature Nook staff in leading programs specifically designed for our littlest guests.
Special Exhibit Host – guide museum guests through our latest traveling exhibit pointing out their exciting features
Special Scout programs – assist with weekend, evening or overnight scout programs as they work towards earning various badge requirements.
Gallery Interpretation – DelMNS has many new and wonderful ecosystem-based exhibits, assist our guests in learning about them through interpretation
Special Events – Assist museum staff on one of our many fun and edu-taining special events.
Education Collections Curation – If you’re a behind-the-scenes person, assisting with the inventory, preservation and curation of the museum’s education collection may the place for you.
Arts & Crafts Prep – Assist museum staff in creating and preparing educational arts, crafts and activities that can be used as tools to teach and scientific concept.
Program/Tour Assistant – assist museum staff with preparation, guidance and assessment of our school and community based tours at the museum
Animal Care – for those interested in caring for our live animal collection including cleaning, diet preparation, and other basic animal care needs. This position requires a weekly commitment due to the amount of training required.
Summer Science Corps
June-August 2023
- For high school teens ages 14 and up
- Lead hands-on science and nature activities
- Assist with gallery interpretation, education programs, special events, summer camp and more
- Gain experience in early childhood education, exhibit interpretation, museum collections, and more
- Program is from June-August
- Training date: Saturday, May 20, 2023, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
- Comfortable and willing to interact and relate to different age groups and educational levels in a positive and professional manner

Delaware Teen Science Café Leadership Team
2023-2024 School Year
- The Teen Leadership Team plans and hosts Teen Science Cafés during the school year. Activities include creating themes, preparing presenters, marketing, and building leadership skills.
- Applicants for the Teen Leadership Team must be in grades 9-12.
- The program runs through the school year, August through May.
- Hours count towards school community service requirements.

In addition to our teen volunteer opportunities, through the New Castle County Youth Program, we are hiring up to five youth (ages 14-21) for paid summer (and possibly year-round) positions. This program is funded through the American Recovery Program Act (ARPA) and has household income eligibility requirements.
